"A Terrible Business Model" (per our patent attorney)

As the Inventor of the "Patent Pending" Bucket Buddy project, we have learned a lot about the various steps, stages, and hoops that a person has to go through to try and get an idea patented.

The Problem: How to get "X" number of pounds of feed per day without spilling or dumping to "X" amount of open breeding heifers in order to reach a certain weight by the time of selling said breeding heifers (a side project that I have been doing for 4 years now) while transporting the feed in 5-gallon buckets (perhaps the best invention of all time).

The most frequent comment I get when showing our Bucket Buddy to someone for the 1st time is "Well, that's a great idea, that must've taken some creative thinking and it definitely looks like it works!"

My response: "Thanks, although most of the time I feel this "great idea" was mostly fueled by anger and frustration" as I chuckle to myself.

One day during the patent process my attorney asked, "Why are you so stuck on creating this product out of High-Density Polyethylene?".

Explanation: I explained to him that when I was 10 years old (1991), I bought my first horse and for that horse I had to buy (with my own money) a water tank in which I filled by packing 5-gallon buckets of water to daily. The tank that I purchased was a 50-gallon Rubbermaid stock tank made out of HDPE. It was used for the horses that I owned up until the time that I sold them just before leaving for college. After returning home from college, I purchased my first group of cows (6 cow calf pairs) and brought that very stock tank to the farm that I am currently still working towards owning. Since that time (almost 40 years now) that very stock tank has been stomped on, trampled on, driven over, thrown out of the back of a pick-up and frozen solid. The only difference between that very stock tank and the new ones that are sold today is that it has been faded by the sun. Its figuratively indestructible. Upon hearing this his reply was "That's a terrible business model. How do you ever plan to sell more than one per owner if you feel this product will last so long?"

My response: I DON'T. I told myself from the start that if I ever got the chance to market this idea, my goal was and still is to provide a quality product that does what it's supposed to and LASTS. Too often these days manufacturers build things knowing that they won't last (throw away parts per say) which will give them another opportunity to sell someone the same thing when it breaks, stops working or runs its life's expectancy. To me that is FRUSTRATING.

At Bucket Buddy we believe that our product not only does what it is supposed to but also will last the owner forever. People talk. When they are satisfied with a product, they let others know and likewise if they are disappointed. We feel confident that our product will be talked about in a positive way! Every unit sold thus far has had a great response as you can read from our testimonials. So now you know a little bit more about our said "Business Model" here at Bucket Buddy. Thanks for reading. Feel free to reach out with questions.
